Stunting. Is awesome… In the right place and at the right time.

But why are there so many chowderheads out there who will do really stupid stuff that not only puts themselves, but others, in danger? To wit: I was commuting the other day and was passed by a guy on a gixxer 600 wearing a sweatshirt, shorts, and gym shoes. I moved into the lane behind him because traffic was flowing better there, and then all the sudden he slowed down, looked behind him a few times and then pulled up into a 55mph wheelie while traffic buzzed by him on both sides. He actually nearly went into another lane wile holding the wheelie.

And then when he brings the wheelie down he keeps looking back at me. Like, does he want me to to give him a thumbs-up? Am I supposed to return the one-wheel salute? I’m not stupid. I don’t ride stupid. But what pissed me off the most is that at that moment I really wanted to. All the sudden this urge gripped me to yank the front wheel up. At 55mph. On the freeway. And I have no idea how to wheelie.

Please make the stupid stop.

Have you been thinking about a track day this year? If you have, is your bike getting a little long in the tooth? Does two days of track riding on models ranging from the KTM Duke to KTM Super Duke to even the new RC8 sounds like fun? (Of course it does so don’t even dare think it wouldn’t be awesome)

These 2 day superbike schools run by Skip Barber and are only held at Laguna Seca. Oh, and those two days will run you $2599 (plus extra for a damage waiver) so, yeah, it’s certainly NOT your typical track day. But hey, in this economy, who doesn’t have close to three grand to toss around?

I do have to say though, speaking from experience, the Skip Barber schools will make you better. I did a one day session of their BMW driving school at Infineon years ago and the lessons I learned that day – braking, choosing lines, skid and spin recovery – are still with me and not only made me a better driver, but a better motorcycle rider as well. So I imagine two days of mixed track time and classroom lessons would make almost anyone a better rider – and not only on the track, but on the street as well.

Motorcyclist online has more details, and you can also go directly to www.skipbarber.com if you are one of those lucky souls who has the scratch to consider this.
